Wine Reviews
Zinfandel, 2022 Rockpile Reserve
94. Cellar Selection. Deep, dark and very spicy, this black-fruited Zin displays aromas of blackberry and plum on the nose. These give way to flavors of black cherry, dark chocolate and licorice that wash across the palate with powerful, age worthy tannins. Lay this down for a few years, then enjoy with barbequed pork ribs. 11/1/24, Tom Capo, The Wine Enthusiast.
94. Opaque purple in color. Sublime nose of black fruits, licorice, baking spices and pepper. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Rich, decadent and well balanced. Black cherry, blackberry, spiced plums and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. One of the better Rockpile Zins in recent memory. Best over the next 3-5 years. 7/1/24, Tom Lee, Zinfandel Chronicles
Petite Sirah, 2022 Rockpile
90. Pure power. Spiced blackberry, blueberry and milk-chocolate aromas dominate the nose of this intense Petite Sirah. The palate shows vibrant flavors of black cherry and plum, and is loaded with rich, chewy tannin. Give this a few years in the cellar and enjoy with braised beef short ribs. — Tom R. Capo, The Wine Enthusiast
95. Dark as night in color. 14.6% ABV. Sublime nose of black and blue fruits, creosote, smoked meats and flowers. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Super lush and impeccably balanced. Black cherry, blueberry, plums and white pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Exceptionally well crafted Petite Sirah. You can enjoy this now but stick a few bottles in the cellar as well. Best over the next 10-12 years. 7/10/25, Tom Lee, Zinfandel Chronicles
Petite Sirah, 2021 Rockpile
91. Made in a hearty, no-nonsense style, this full-bodied and firmly tannic wine will stand up to the fattest sausage or juiciest ribeye, and it will be even better with time. It’s packed with the darkest blackberries and espresso flavors. Best from 2027–2040. — Jim Gordon The Wine Enthusiast
94. Opaque purple in color. 15.4% ABV. Savory nose of black and blue fruits, scorched earth and flowers. Full bodied with tremendous acidity. Rich, plush and well balanced. Blackberry, blueberry liqueur, barbecued meats and bittersweet chocolate on the palate. The finish is long with drying tannins. More approachable than I might have expected but this will certainly age well. Best over the next 8-10 years, Tom Lee, Zinfandel Chronicles, 7/10/25
